Sound Therapy

Sound Therapy involves the use of highly variant sound waves to produce measurable and helpful changes in the brain and nervous system.

How Does Sound Therapy Work?

Tones of varying frequencies are played into the ear (with or without headphones, depending on the condition) and the brain’s electrical activity is effectively altered and transformed. Sound waves massage and activate the brain into specific and highly predictable response patterns which are tailored to suit the brain-based needs of every patient. As the brain continues to receive the appropriate tonal stimulus, it changes its wiring and begins to function more optimally. Sound therapy utilizes audible tones designed to: (1) stimulate specific parts of the brain, (2) to synchronize the two hemispheres of the brain, and (3) to cultivate optimal brain wave patterns.

What Conditions are Treatable with Sound Therapy?

Sound therapy has been researched and tested for over 70 years across a wide variety of scientific disciplines. If this is true, you may be wondering how it is that you know so little about this modality. Reliance upon drug treatments is, to a large extent, why this highly effective brain-based therapy has been less publicized in the medical industry. However, the body of research on sound therapy clearly demonstrates that sound can be used to effectively treat the following conditions:

  • ADD/ADHD
  • Developmental Delays & Learning Disabilities
  • Addiction/Chemical Dependency Reduction
  • Anxiety
  • Blood Pressure/Hypertension Reduction
  • Depression/Seasonal Affective Disorder
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Fibromyalgia/Chronic Pain Relief
  • Headache/Migraine Relief
  • Immune System Issues
  • Insomnia
  • PMS Relief
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Stress Relief

Even if your brain is functioning well, sound therapy sessions can be utilized to provide various biological, psychological, and emotional benefits including:

  • Study Help
  • Relaxation
  • Accelerated Growth/Healing (Human Growth Hormone release)
  • Athletic Performance/Sports Enhancement
  • Creativity/Brain Storming Assistance
  • Energy/Motivation
  • IQ/Intelligence Increase
  • Pre-exercise/Physical Power/Focus
  • Pre-test Performance Preparation
  • Wake-Up Without Caffeine
What Will My Sound Therapy Session(s) Be Like?

After an initial assessment meeting, your sound therapy protocol will be designed for either in-clinic and/or out-of-clinic use (depending on the condition).

For many in-clinic conditions, you will simply sit in a comfortable chair or lie on your back while sound frequencies are played through headphones or other stereophonic channels to one or both of your ears. These therapeutically intended sound frequencies will be played simultaneous with an appropriate musical background designed for easy listening.

For most out-of-clinic treatments your customized audio prescriptions will be loaded on a CD or MP3 player, and you will listen to the sound frequencies during scheduled times of the day. For some conditions, the sounds can be played in your ears while you are engaged in other tasks. Sound therapy treatments are never painful and most patients report them as being relaxing, rejuvenating, or otherwise pleasant in some form or fashion, again, depending on the specific condition being treated.
