Interactive Metronome

Our Interactive Metronome (IM) is a cutting-edge brain and neurology treatment tool that is highly effective for treating learning and developmental issues in both children and adults. Prior to the development of the IM, therapists were able to identify patients with these difficulties, but there was no system in place for measurable assessment and improvement. Now the technology is here at ahp!!

Who can IM help?

The IM is designed to help patients with conditions which are linked to brain dysfunction such as attention-oriented conditions (ADD/ADHD), problems with motor planning and sequencing, and for children with developmental and learning disabilities, such as Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Asperger’s Syndrome, and Cerebral Palsy. Other patients who can benefit from IM therapy are those who have suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury, stroke, or an incomplete spinal cord injury; and those with Multiple Sclerosis, Balance Disorders, or Parkinson’s Disease.

How does IM work?

The IM is designed to optimize sequencing and motor timing. It teaches the patient to synchronize hand and foot motions to the rhythmic beat of a computer generated tone they hear through headphones or speakers. There is real time auditory feedback on their performance that does not distract them, and helps them improve. As the duration of therapy periods increase, their endurance builds and the brain begins to relax and fire its messages to the body more accurately. The IM is fun and simple-to-use. Many of our patients treat their IM therapy sessions as a challenging audio-visual game where they are motivated to get better and better as each session progresses.

What are the benefits of IM therapy?

The benefits of IM therapy have been highly documented and include improved attention and concentration, motor control and coordination, language processing, athletic and musical performance, and control of aggression and undesirable impulses.

The therapeutic applications of the IM are impressive. Research consistently demonstrates that it is a highly effective tool for treating:

  • ADD/ADHD
  • Developmental Delays/Learning Disabilities
  • Asperger’s Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • Sensory Integration Disorder
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Cerebral Vascular Accident (CVA) or Stroke
  • Balance/Gait disorders
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Multiple Sclerosis

The IM program is exceptionally helpful for improving the academic performance of both children and adults. The academic benefits include:

  • Improved performance on standardized assessments
  • Improved academic skills in reading and math
  • Increased attention span and vigilance
  • Improved classroom skills and behavior

The IM is utilized by professionals in over 2,000 clinics, hospitals and universities worldwide. Media recognition of this new technology includes the CBS Early Show, CNN News, US News and World Report and hundreds of TV and radio affiliates.
